Draw the kitchen when it is open
Measure the passage with dishwasher and extended drawers, in addition to the distance between closed fronts. That space determines whether someone can cross while someone else picks up or cooks. In a small kitchen renovation, it is interesting to compare those real situations before deciding that an additional unit deserves to occupy the last available gap.
Distribute what is used at the same time
If dishes, cutlery and dishwasher are concentrated in the same spot, picking up can block the entire area. Consider where you are when performing each task and what you need to achieve. Changing the interior of a piece of furniture can help, but its position in relation to the appliances and the place where food is served also matters.
Assess useful depth and free surface
A less deep piece of furniture can facilitate the passage, even if it does not serve to save the larger objects. Before choosing it, measure its intended content and calculate how much worktop support you need to keep.
